Addis Ababa City Administration is working with great determination to ensure the economic and social development of our city and make Addis Ababa a city that is as beautiful as its name and a symbol of prosperity for our country. The city administration is working hard to make the changes that our city and our people deserve by aligning itself with its people. One of the issues that has received great attention in Addis Ababa City since the transformation and the development of the corridor is the transportation sector. The city administration understands that the imbalance between the supply and demand of public transportation and the high traffic congestion in our city are the main problems of the sector, and has invested heavily in solving these problems step by step over the past years of change. It has also developed operating systems to reform and transform the sector. To increase the urban bus transport service, after the change, the construction of modern Shegole and Qaliti bus depots was completed and put into service. The very modern Merkato and Adwa Victory Memorial bus terminals were built and put into service. The number of buses in the urban bus service has increased from the number of buses before the change to the number of buses supplied every year after the change. By reforming the service, it has been saved from the decline in organization, management, operation, and maintenance services, and has now become a major mass transport service provider for our people. The City Bus Service Organization is providing transportation services to 4.1 million people daily by increasing bus service, using public service transport and light rail transport, using the private Addis Ababa Bus Service Organization and other taxis, minibuses, and express buses, and using the Bajaj transportation option in inaccessible areas of our city. In addition, in 2017, a step was taken to improve the provision and service of public transport, and a modern public transport service was launched by creating 100 electric buses as an operator through a public-private partnership. It is believed that the main thing to improve the transport service of our city and reduce traffic congestion is to expand the transport infrastructure. In the past years of change, roads, terminals, parking lots, taxi and bus loading and unloading bays, etc. Infrastructure has been extensively developed. Large parking lots with a capacity of more than 5,000 vehicles have been put into service. Many infrastructures have been built in the corridor development; they are still under construction, and world-class pedestrian and bicycle paths that can promote non-motorized transportation have been built and put into service. Efforts have been made to reduce traffic congestion in our city by expanding traffic lights, converting intersections to signals, increasing road markings and painting, and strengthening traffic control. A great effort has been made to improve the service by supporting the transport sector with technology. By converting driver and vehicle files to electronic files, document loss and fraud have been fundamentally improved; services have also been digitized, significantly improving the service. A technological system for traffic control and parking management has been deployed, and taxi dispatching has been digitized. A modern traffic control center has been established to modernize the city bus fleet management, and the technological installation work is in progress. In general, fundamental changes are being recorded by reforming the sector's institutions to improve and modernize our city's transport activities and service delivery. Finally, through the continuous support of the city administration and the reform work of the transport sector, although significant work has been done and fundamental changes have been made to improve transport provision and services, reduce traffic congestion, and solve problems of service delivery and good governance, the growth of the population of our city and the number of vehicles is still not in line with the growth of infrastructure, transport provision, and traffic management system, and therefore, the transport service and traffic movement have not improved as much as they should. Therefore, the reform work that has been started is to continue.
